On Private Members' Business day, two motions - one praising the role of Agricultural shows and one condemning the Government's focus were debated. In addition, brief contributions were made to the second readings of two bills relating to the use of dogs and cats in animal research and to the rights of members of the public to bring legal proceedings regarding breaches of the Forestry Act.

On a long sitting day, the House considered bills relating to the Parliamentary Budget Officer, consorting laws, raising the Warragamba Dam wall, the creation of a Western City and Aerotropolis Authority, the impoundment of shared bicycles and residential tenancy agreements.

On Tuesday the House passed bills concerning workers compensation, community and charitable gaming activities and penalties for drink- and drug driving behaviour.

The House Last Week – 18-20 September 2018
The House sat for the first time last week following the busy Budget Estimates hearings earlier this month. The House passed a total of four government bills, saw the introduction of three government and two private members' bills and debated a number of private members' business motions.

On private members' business day two new – but somewhat familiar – bills were introduced, one regarding double jeopardy laws and the other a moratorium on declaring new marine parks. A motion commemorating ANZAC Day 2018 was debated and agreed to and further motions on government infrastructure projects and agricultural shows were debated.

The Council passed four bills and introduced a further three, referred a road transport bill (to address drink- and drug driving behaviour) to the Law and Justice Committee and referred an inquiry regarding the response to gay and transgender hate crimes to the Social Issues Committee.
