In what proved to be a lively final official sitting week of 2025, the Legislative Council was hard at work debating — and successfully passing — ten bills. These covered a range of issues, from criminal law reforms and enhanced protections against domestic violence to improved workers’ compensation for firefighters and new regulations for micromobility vehicles.
The week was packed with activity: the House agreed to eight orders for papers, set dates for additional 2025-2026 Budget Estimates hearings, and heard a personal statement from Independent member the Hon Mark Latham regarding a recent Privileges Committee inquiry into the unauthorised disclosure of privileged information.
With several Government matters still left unresolved, the President announced that the Government intends to make use of next week’s reserve sitting week. That means the House will be back for what is now set to be the official final sitting week of 2025!
